A 400 m oval opened in December 1979

Leangen kunstisbane was begun in 1978 and opened in December 1979 as a 400 m speed-skating oval with room for 6,500 people. It has hosted the 1984 world sprint championships, the men's European championships of 1980 and 1987 and several Norwegian allround championships, the latest in 2017.

The track sits in Leangen idrettspark, one of the largest sports grounds in Trondheim and in Norway, where most of the activity is on ice. An outdoor, artificially frozen speed-skating track surrounds an inner ice surface that is reached by a footbridge over the oval. Speed-skating meets run on most weekends of the season, usually starting at 12.00 on Saturdays and Sundays.

Bandy has been missing since the winter of 2023-24, when a leak in the cooling pipes put the bandy rink out of use. In September 2026 work on the bandy rink's refrigeration plant was under way, ahead of a season due to start in November or December.
