Winterswijkse IJsvereniging: a 400 m spray-ice track and practice rink at De Witte Poorte

Public skating at WIJV De Witte Poorte: the next 7 days

Currently out of season The Winterswijkse IJsvereniging's spray-ice track De Witte Poorte at Bataafseweg 2c has no ice at the moment: the club's home page says that when there is no ice members can inline skate on the practice rink and the 400 m track. Its latest news, from 28 August 2026, reports that a second white coating layer was applied to the tracks, and the club notes that skating was possible on 22 days in the 2025-2026 season. The track opens whenever the spraying crew can build ice, and the news page reports each opening. No sessions are listed here. Checked 11 October 2026. Official schedule update

A spray-ice track in Winterswijk where thin layers of water make skating possible on just a skin of ice

The Winterswijkse IJsvereniging was founded in 1887 and is the oldest sports club in Winterswijk. Its ice and inline skating complex consists of a rectangular practice rink of about 39.5 by 25.6 metres and, beside it, a standard 400 metre track ten metres wide.

Both are spray tracks: instead of being put under a layer of water, they get very thin layers of water sprayed onto the frozen ground. The big advantage over other types of natural ice is that you can already skate on a very thin layer of ice, so the rink opened on 22 days in the winter of 2025-2026. In 2024-2025 the white-coated practice rink opened ten times against seven for the asphalt-coloured 400 metre track.

A February Sunday in the club's news shows the result: on the practice rink children played and practised, while on the 400 metre track both the stronger and the less trained skaters did their laps. Without ice, the club's members can inline skate on both tracks, and children get free inline lessons on Thursday evenings.
