A convertible ice arena that hosts Russian skating championships and public skating
No public skating is posted for the next 7 days. New sessions show here as soon as the rink posts them.
The Ice Palace Mari El in Yoshkar-Ola opened on 22 April 2006 as the first object of the federal programme for developing physical culture and sport in Russia for 2006 to 2015. The complex covers 12,271.7 square metres, and the ice arena measures 30 by 60 metres with stands for 2,500 spectators plus VIP seating. A special Terracover floor can turn the ice into a dry multi-purpose hall for concerts and shows.
From 2010 to 2019 the palace hosted the Russian synchronised skating championships and a stage of the Rostelecom Cup in figure skating, and its arena has staged concerts by the Alexandrov Ensemble and by Russian pop acts. In March 2019 it won the "Best Ice Palace" category of the Sportsfacilities awards. A sports museum opened inside in 2019.
Mass-skating sessions have become especially popular with residents and visitors of the republic, and the palace reports an average of about 1,000 visitors a day.
