A rebuilt ice slab cooled five degrees a day
The winter stadium in Žďár nad Sázavou is the home of the hockey club SKLH Žďár nad Sázavou and holds up to 2,300 spectators. It offers conditions not only for hockey but also for figure skating, speed skating, short track and public skating.
In 2026 the ice slab was rebuilt. This was no ordinary start to the season but the very first cooling of the new concrete ice surface after its reconstruction, and to protect the new structure from cracks the concrete had to be cooled slowly and in a controlled way, by about 5 °C every 24 hours.
In the last days the stadium's staff worked literally around the clock. On 16 September the operator said that, if all went to plan, the first sports clubs would take to the new ice on Monday 21 September afternoon. The result is an ice surface about 3 cm thick.
