IJsvereniging Zelhem: the Halfweg rink, a 1930s track with a shallow children's rink in the middle
Public skating at IJsvereniging Zelhem: the next 7 days
Currently out of season IJsvereniging Zelhem's natural-ice rink Halfweg at Doetinchemseweg 78 is closed for now: the club's news page last posts a status update from 11 January 2026 (the rink partly open from 12.00 with free entry that day), and nothing newer is posted for the coming winter. The club measures the ice before opening: in December 2025 it varied from 3 to 6 cm. No sessions are listed here. Checked 11 October 2026. Official schedule update
The Halfweg natural-ice rink between Zelhem and Doetinchem, in use since the winter of 1934/35
Natuurijsbaan Halfweg lies halfway between Zelhem and Doetinchem and is easy to reach by bike or car. Skating was possible on the track right away in the winter of 1934/35; the club's history describes a track 334 m long and 10 m wide with a separate children's rink.
Since 2010 there has also been a rink on the middle field, a shallow dug-out part that freezes quickly beside the outer track. Local stories say that in ice periods many romances began here, and that the Halfweg rink was the winter marriage bureau.
Today the club's ice master looks after the water. Before opening the club measures the ice, which in late December 2025 varied from 3 to 6 cm, and it posts the day's status on its news page.
