Built in 1974-81 as an ice rink, made a hall in the 1990s and modernised in six stages from 2016
The MOSiR hall at Wschodnia 2 in Zgierz was built in 1974-81 and, until 1991, served only as an artificial ice rink. In the 1990s it was converted into an indoor hall, and in the 21st century the idea of a multi-purpose building was carried out.
Modernisation of what is the town's largest sports hall took six stages from 2016. The first, until spring 2017, gave it a new outer facade and new windows and doors and conserved the load-bearing parts. A later stage renovated the interior, rebuilding corridors and changing rooms, and renewed the heating, ventilation and sewage systems.
After the final stage the hall was put back into use as a multi-purpose building: two layers of technical floor can be laid over the ice for volleyball, basketball or futsal. Offers came in from figure skating clubs as soon as the opening was announced, but its main purpose now is wide access to the ice for the residents of Zgierz.
