One of Slovakia's oldest winter stadiums

The Zimný štadión in Žilina, named after Vojtech Závodský, was begun in 1958 and first opened in 1961, when the Dynamo Žilina team of the day met Young Sprinters Neuchâtel of Switzerland. It is one of the oldest winter stadiums in Slovakia. The first major reconstruction came in 1970 and cost 4.5 million Czechoslovak crowns; the latest, in 2015, renewed the changing rooms and public toilets, the ventilation and the steel structure of the old roof.

A training hall beside the main stadium was begun in 2003 and opened on 21 September 2004, so the site has two ice sheets, the main hall and the training hall. They serve mainly the city hockey club MHK Žilina and figure-skating training, and in winter the training hall holds public skating for up to 250 people.

The main hall has a roof structure that needs no supporting pillars inside, so spectators have an unobstructed view.
