Built in 2002 to replace the PWA sports centre

SilverDome grew out of the PWA sports centre, named after Prins Willem Alexander, which opened in 1982 in Zoetermeer's Stadshart with a 30 by 60 metre ice rink. That hall was demolished in 2002 and replaced by a new ice centre on the Van der Hagenstraat, and the complex took the name SilverDome when it opened on 7 June 2002.

The silver dome holds a 30 by 60 metre rink and an official curling rink, which the centre calls the only one in the Netherlands, plus a 250-metre speed-skating oval on the first floor that no longer has ice. Public skating is on the ice hockey rink, where the Zoetermeer Panters train and play and where Schaatsschool Zoetermeer and the IJsvereniging Zoetermeer (YVZ) give lessons.

The hall hosted the 2004 European short-track championships, and in the same year the International Darts League was played here because of a fire at De Uithof in The Hague. From April to mid-September it is an events venue with room for more than 8,000 visitors.
