Year-round ice on Kennewick's Three Rivers campus, added to the 1988 Coliseum complex in June 2000
Toyota Arena is part of a Kennewick complex that started as the Tri-Cities Coliseum, where ground was broken in 1986 and the doors opened in 1988 with the Tri-Cities Figure Skating Club and the Tri-Cities Amateur Hockey Association as its home tenants. In June 2000 a year-round ice arena, Rink B, was added to the complex, and that August the City of Kennewick bought the Coliseum from private ownership. Management passed to the Kennewick Public Facilities District in April 2004, and a 2005 naming-rights agreement made the Three Rivers Coliseum the Toyota Center and the Three Rivers Ice Arena the Toyota Arena.
The arena has the only year-round ice sheet within a 150-mile radius and stands on the Three Rivers Campus alongside the Toyota Center and the Three Rivers Convention Center. The Tri-Cities Figure Skating Club and the Tri-Cities Amateur Hockey Association are still based here, and Tri-Cities Old Timers Hockey skates here as well. The building's own skating school stages a Spring Show on this ice.
Two upgrades in 2018 and 2019 changed what skaters see. In 2018 the old lighting was replaced with a fully programmable LED system that can change colors instantly and dim from zero to 100, and in February 2019 construction started on a new $3.4 million ice plant for the campus.
