Virden's 2011 LEED-built complex with a 1,200-seat NHL-size rink, home of the MJHL's Virden Oil Capitals
No public skating is posted for the next 7 days. New sessions show here as soon as the rink posts them.
Tundra Oil and Gas Place is a multi-purpose recreation complex built in Virden in 2011. With the town's aging recreational facilities reaching the end of their useful lives, the Town of Virden held public consultations, and construction ran from March 2010 to June 2011 following Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) standards. Tundra Oil & Gas acquired the naming rights in August 2012. Along with the hockey rink, the building holds a 500-seat community hall, a walking track, meeting rooms, a canteen and a fitness centre.
The rink has 1,200 individual seats and an NHL-sized, climate-controlled ice surface. The Virden Oil Capitals, a junior 'A' team in the Manitoba Junior Hockey League, have played here since 2012, when local investors bought the Saints franchise and moved it to Virden; the Oil Kings of the North Central Hockey League, the Virden Golden Bears high-school team, minor hockey and figure skating also use the ice.
The arena's first major event was a 2012 Telus Cup regional championship, and it has since hosted the 2014 Manitoba Scotties Tournament of Hearts and the 2019 Viterra Championship, the provincial men's curling championship. Each August the building becomes a rodeo arena for three days.
