Built for the 1979 Canada Winter Games
The City of Brandon built the Community Sportsplex in the mid-1970s as a venue for the 1979 Canada Winter Games, and since those Games it has been open to the public for recreational use. The complex pairs an indoor hockey arena with a 50-metre swimming pool, racquetball courts and a 400-metre outdoor track.
The arena is one of four indoor rinks serving Brandon; the other three are inside the Keystone Centre. It is home to the Brandon Wheat Kings of the Manitoba Midget AAA Hockey League and is used by the city's minor hockey, speed skating and figure skating programs, from learn-to-skate through high-performance hockey.
The arena closed in March 2023 over safety concerns with its aging ammonia ice plant, and construction of a new ice plant was completed in 2025. The complex had earlier received extensive track and pool upgrades ahead of the 1997 Canada Summer Games.
