What this place is
The Chiller's hockey skate sharpening service, taken in at the front desk of OhioHealth Ice Haus. Skates can be dropped off at any Chiller rink.
Skate Sharpening at OhioHealth Ice Haus
The OhioHealth Ice Haus is the Columbus Blue Jackets’ practice rink, built into the Nationwide Arena complex downtown and used by visiting NHL teams as well as St. Charles, Upper Arlington and Hilliard high school hockey and the Ohio AAA Blue Jackets. It also runs public skating and youth and adult leagues, which makes it the Chiller rink closest to downtown and the Short North.
Skates for the Chiller’s hockey sharpening service can be handed in at the front desk here, as at the other Chiller rinks. The service comes from a sharpener who spent around thirty years as an equipment manager for the Blue Jackets and the Columbus Chill, so leaving a pair at the team’s own practice rink feels about right.
Check the Nationwide Arena event calendar before a drop-off, since game and concert nights change how you get in. The Ohio State Ice Rink pro shop, a few miles north on campus, is the nearest other place to have skates sharpened.
