Rink planned in 1987 with a pool, completed in September 1993

The La Fayette ice rink in Besançon began as a joint pool-and-rink project at Planoise, which the city council launched on 13 April 1987. On 9 May 1988 the council chose the design team, and on 15 April 1991 it launched construction of the rink. In September 1993 the building works finished and the city took possession of the building.

The rink has two tracks, a large one for experienced skaters and a small one for beginners. Three city clubs use the ice: Besançon Association Patinage Artistique, Besançon Doubs Hockey Club and Besançon Curling Club. The city and the figure-skating club work together through the year, from first lessons to an end-of-season show before more than 1,000 children.

In autumn 2016 the rink hosted a hockey game between Dijon and Chamonix-Morzine. After ten months of closure it reopened in November 2021, and in 2022 the ice-making was postponed to 29 August because of a heatwave.
