Opened in 1981, home of the Boxers de Bordeaux
The Patinoire de Mériadeck was created in 1981 and for years served as a major hall for shows and concerts in Bordeaux. Depeche Mode played it on tours in 1988, 1990 and 1993. It also hosted the French figure-skating championships in 1983, the French ice-dance championships in 1990 and 1992, and the Trophée de France in 1995. The Arkéa Arena took over the concert role in 2018.
Today the building is a skating and hockey rink with a 1800 m² Olympic-size ice surface. The City of Bordeaux entrusted its operation to a specialist company under a public-service delegation, and the rink forms part of the Axel Vega complex.
Two clubs call it home. Bordeaux Sports de Glace takes children from age 4 and can lead them on to ice dance or synchronised skating. The Boxers de Bordeaux play at the top level, in the Ligue Synerglace Magnus, and their amateur association trains young hockey players from age 3. The ice is shared between club members, school groups from primary school to university, and the public, from September to May.
