Refitted for major hockey matches
The Patinoire de Buisson Rond belongs to the Grand Chambéry agglomeration, which also runs it. Its maximum capacity is 1082 people at one time. The ice was refitted to meet the standards for major hockey matches, and the agglomeration recently bought new flexible high-competition boards from Vepe-Icepro, a purchase four years in the making with Chambéry Hockey 73.
Hockey is the building's heaviest use. Chambéry Hockey 73 was founded in 1972 as the ice hockey section of the Stade Olympique de Chambéry, and its team reached the semi-finals of the 2024 Coupe de France. The rink staged 34 hockey matches in 2024-25, including those of the local club, SOC Hockey.
Beyond hockey, more than 9,700 schoolchildren had dedicated ice slots that season, and nearly 50,000 visitors skated here in total. Light Show evenings turn the rink into a disco on ice, with lights and current music, and from October 2025 a monthly Glisse en Scène evening puts live performers beside the ice. A 360-degree virtual tour lets visitors explore the building from home.
