Hamburg's open-air rink in Planten un Blomen, among Europe's largest
The EisArena Hamburg sits in the Planten un Blomen park and calls itself the most beautiful ice rink in the world. With 4,300 square metres of ice it is also one of the largest rinks in Europe, and it stays open daily until the end of March, in the open air.
Between ice-preparation breaks skaters can choose from the bistro's wide menu, from fries and crêpes to mulled wine. Gloves are compulsory on the ice for safety, and the rink offers a large hire fleet of figure skates and hockey boots.
Ice hockey is not possible here: the boards are not closed and no catch nets surround the ice. The entrance to the rink lies on the Holstenwall, and a weekly Family Day brings reduced prices on Tuesday afternoons outside the holidays.
