Kemerovo's bandy stadium and its covered ice module, one of the largest indoor rinks in Russia
The Khimik stadium in Kemerovo was built in 1957, and in 2003 a compressor station was installed to make artificial ice. The open stadium and its covered module hold up to 20,000 spectators between them, and the stadium hosted the 27th Bandy World Championship in 2007, won by Russia. It was the home ground of HC Kuzbass from 1997 to 2021, and its bandy school counts 35 world champions among its graduates.
The Winter Sports Centre is the covered module, with an ice area of 6,300 square metres that the stadium calls one of the largest indoor rinks in Russia. Beside it is an open coloured rink of 3,000 square metres that twice won first place as the best winter sports ground among Kuzbass cities.
Mass-skating sessions are posted by date, updated every Monday, and each year the stadium lets children from orphanages skate free.
