The Arche des Neiges, built in 1980

The Patinoire du Lioran, known as the Arche des Neiges, was designed by the architect Vittorio Mazzucconi and built in 1980 for the Cantal département. Its laminated-timber roof is shaped as hyperbolic paraboloids, and the hall was meant to be seen from above by skiers and walkers. The central rink measures 40 by 20 metres, planned for leisure skating and ice hockey.

It was first laid with a synthetic surface so that the hall could host cultural and business events as well. Real ice replaced it in 1993, as the Mouflons du Lioran hockey team grew more successful. The club's president counts 20 children and about thirty seniors today. It has been the only ice rink in Cantal for 45 years.

In November 2025 the département launched a design competition to modernise the building. One of the two scenarios removes the rink altogether, and works could start in September 2027.
