The Leipziger Eistraum turns the Augustusplatz in the city centre into a winter landscape from mid-January to the end of February, with white huts, mulled wine, fire bowls, a Ferris wheel and what the organiser calls one of the biggest round ice rinks in Germany. The event has been held on the square since 2017 and is run by Bergmann Eventgastronomie.
Skating is in timed runs, six a day from 10:00 to 22:00, and skates are available in sizes 25 to 47 with penguin skating aids for beginners. Beside the rink are ice stock lanes open daily from 10:00 to 22:00 for up to eight players, a Ferris wheel 45 metres high with 24 gondolas, and an alpine hut that can also be rented for parties of up to 50 people.
