Obihiro's 1987 city rink in the Forest Sports Park, built for hockey, figure and speed skaters
Obihiro Forest Ice Arena in the Obihiro Forest Sports Park was completed on 31 July 1987 and opened on 30 August that year, at a cost of about 1.32 billion yen, of which Hokkaido paid 300 million. It is a two-storey reinforced-concrete building of 5,899 square metres, run by the Obihiro City Culture and Sports Promotion Foundation.
The hall serves ice hockey, figure skating, speed skating, short track and curling, and is open from 15 July to 31 March. During public sessions only skating is allowed: ice hockey sticks and protective gear may not be worn.
Spectators pay nothing, and children in elementary and junior high school skate free. Public sessions give way to tournaments on some days, which the foundation lists in its monthly sheet.
