A municipal ice hall that doubles as a summer sports floor

Obihiro Forest Sports Center was completed in September 2001 and opened on 6 October 2001 in Obihiro Forest Park. It is a two-storey hall of reinforced concrete and steel with 4,327 square metres of floor, built at a cost of about 1.27 billion yen, part of it paid by a defence ministry subsidy.

Its ice is a certified 60 by 30 metre rink laid on a permanent floor of buried steel pipes, with 445 seats on the upper level. The rink is used for ice hockey, speed skating, figure skating and short track, and Thursdays, weekends and holidays are slow-skating days that give beginners priority.

The hall changes with the seasons. This year the ice season runs from 1 September to 20 March, and from 20 April to 11 August the floor is used for in-line hockey, futsal, badminton, table tennis, ballroom dancing, three-on-three basketball and more.
