Hall of 1976 beside a 1999 arena

Odense Skøjtehal was inaugurated in 1976, and its public sessions were part of how local hockey grew: when Odense Ishockey Klub was founded in 1978, it tried to recruit good skaters by turning up at the public skating and developing them into hockey players. Skating in the city is older still, since Odense Skøjteløberforening was founded in 1871. Odense Kommune later granted 40 million kroner for a new skating hall, which was inaugurated in 1999 with room for just over 3,200 spectators.

Today the building has two ice sheets, each 30 by 60 metres. The show hall, used mainly for ice hockey and figure skating, has 3,280 spectator places, 16 of them for disabled guests. The training hall, used for curling and short track, has 1,250 places. The Odense Bulldogs, who play in the top Danish league, Metal Ligaen, and Odense Ishockey Klub both use the building as their home ice.

On Fridays the hall runs Friday Night Skate in the evening, which is aimed mainly at teenagers.
