The Stade Poitevin hockey club's rink, refitted in 2024 as the first fully accessible rink in France
The municipal ice rink on Avenue Jacques Cœur in Poitiers is the home of the Stade Poitevin Hockey Club. The club's ice hockey section was created in 1969 and joined the Stade Poitevin in 1977. Its team is nicknamed the Dragons, and after twenty years in the fourth national tier it was promoted to Division 2 for the 2020-21 season.
The rink was renovated in the summer of 2024 to become fully accessible to people with disabilities. Swing doors at floor and ice level, with no step, now open onto the ice, and transparent barriers let spectators follow para-hockey matches. France 3 called it the first rink in France entirely adapted. The works cost 150 000 euros and were paid for by Grand Poitiers, the département, the region and private partners.
The club's para section now has 17 licensed players, and the rink itself describes its accessibility work as pioneering.
