Salzburg's city-run rink in the Volksgarten since 1960
The Eisarena in the Salzburg Volksgarten is a multi-purpose ice sports hall that the City of Salzburg had built in 1960. The architect Heinz Hochhäusl designed it as a pure artificial-ice rink, and in 2002 and 2003 it was converted into a multi-purpose hall with the help of Red Bull and its patron Dietrich Mateschitz.
The hall is 80 metres wide, 60 deep and 13.5 high, and the arena has two ice surfaces of 3,600 square metres together, one of them in the open air. Public skating takes place in the covered outdoor hall of 60 by 30 metres, from October to March. EC Red Bull Salzburg is the home team, and the ice also serves hockey players, figure skaters, formation skaters and Eisstock shooters, for whom the city says the hall is fully booked all season.
Since the 2020/21 season the Eiszauber has added a mobile ice trail through the park: two open-air sheets of 300 and 400 square metres joined by 330 metres of ice paths, lit by about 100 illuminated Christmas trees. Around 65,500 people used it in 2025/26.
