An old-town rink on Mozartplatz since 2000

Skating on Mozartplatz in Salzburg's old town dates back to 2000. The Eiszauber am Mozartplatz lets locals and visitors skate in the setting of the Altstadt. The Verein Salzburger Christkindlmarkt, which organised it for the fourth time in 2025, created a high-quality ice surface in the middle of the old town, and the same association runs the Christkindlmarkt on the Dom- und Residenzplatz.

In the previous winter more than 20,000 skaters used the open-air ice. Association chairman Wolfgang Haider says the rink offers a very special atmosphere against the backdrop of the old town.

At the 2025 opening, young skaters of the Eisteam Salzburg showed their skills. Beginners and professionals train in the team, which has produced skaters who competed at European and World Championships and at the Olympic Games.
