Lewis Ice Arena sits just up the hill on Maroon Creek Road inside the Aspen Recreation Center, one of the City of Aspen's two ice facilities. It is an official 200-by-85-foot NHL-size rink with seating for 400 and its own locker rooms.
The arena hosts the city's annual figure skating shows, high school hockey games and figure skating clubs, and it is home to Aspen Junior Hockey. In summer it is the only rink open for ice skating in Aspen, with hockey camps, figure skating, public skating, drop-in hockey and adult leagues.
On early-release Wednesdays during the school year, the rec center runs a free Cosmic Skate here for Aspen School District students, to meet the community's need for more early-release activities; other skaters get in with a daily entry or punch pass.
