Opened as Boji Bay Ice Arena in 2013 after a fundraising drive that started in 2009; home of the Boji Mammoths
Lakes Ice Arena in Spirit Lake, Iowa, is the indoor rink the Iowa Great Lakes hockey community raised money for from 2009 onward, breaking ground in November 2012. The structure went up during 2013 under its original name, Boji Bay Ice Arena, and its first season of refrigerated ice was the winter of 2013-14. Before that, the area's youth teams skated outdoors at Speier Park as the Boji Blizzard.
It is a single-sheet arena of roughly 30,000 square feet. The lobby, mezzanine and locker rooms were added a year after the shell, and the bleachers came from the old Spirit Lake High School gym. Youth hockey is the core of the building: the Boji Mammoths run a complete program for players aged 4 through 17, and the high school program, launched in 2015, draws players from Harris-Lake Park, Okoboji, Sibley and Spirit Lake. That high school team joined the Iowa High School Hockey Alliance in 2021 and was named its inaugural champion in 2022.
The Blizzard name retired in 2025, when the board voted to rebrand the youth program as the Boji Mammoths from the 2025-26 season, so every age group now skates under one name. Seven teams call the building home, and in early 2023 the adult hockey group was averaging more than 20 skaters a night.
