Groundbreaking at the Nobles County Fairgrounds in 1989; a single sheet with a replacement under discussion
No public skating is posted for the next 7 days. New sessions show here as soon as the rink posts them.
The Worthington Ice Arena was groundbroken in 1989 at the Nobles County Fairgrounds, a 110-by-225-foot clean-span steel building meant for indoor skating. "We were the second indoor ice facility in our area," says the Worthington Hockey Association's secretary, who notes it is now one of the oldest.
The hockey association managed the arena on a volunteer basis for more than 30 years before turning management over to the City of Worthington, which leases it for a nominal annual fee from the association on property owned by the Nobles County Fair Board. It is a single-sheet facility that cannot hold ice year-round, and about 170 children from age 3 to 18 took part in the association's programs in the year before 2023, including two youth girls' teams.
The city, the school district and the hockey association have worked since early 2024 on a new arena. In May 2026 a new single-sheet arena at the intermediate school site was recommended, and the school board agreed to enter into discussions with the city.
