Blair County's first ice rink, opened June 2000

Galactic Ice opened in June 2000 as the first ice rink in Altoona and Blair County. It stands on the grounds of Lakemont Park, and Blair Companies of Altoona is its major shareholder and lessor. Its first holiday-on-ice show ran that same year, and its skits were revived in December 2016.

The building holds one NHL-regulation ice sheet plus off-ice space laid out for training. It is home to the Altoona Area Youth Ice Hockey Association, whose Altoona Trackers and Mid-State Mustangs teams cover ages 5 to 18; the Mustangs have won three national championships and keep a second-floor team room decorated with the memorabilia. Three high school hockey programs, Penn State Altoona hockey and the Sitting Bulls sled hockey team also call the rink home, and the Penn State women's club has played occasional home games here since 2012. The Lakemont Figure Skating Club and the Rail City Curling Club are based here as well.

The rink puts its traffic at more than 225,000 visitors a year. Its December 2016 holiday show put more than 75 costumed skaters from the Trackers, the youth hockey association and the Lakemont Figure Skating Club on the ice, and the Rail City Curling Club picked up its first win outside Blair County at a four-day tournament in March 2020.
