Portage's Centennial Arena, built in 1967

The BDO Centre for the Community is the former Portage Centennial Arena, built in 1967 as one of the projects across Canada partly funded by the federal government for the country's Centennial. A second arena, the West, was added in 1980. It was the city's main hockey arena until 2010 and home of the Portage Terriers from 1967 to 2010, and it was a venue for the 1999 World Junior Ice Hockey Championships.

Since Stride Place opened in 2010 it has been Portage's secondary rink. The West ice now runs each season from November 1 to February 28, kept going with the support of local residents and businesses, while the East arena stores recreation vehicles from October to April. The Central Plains Capitals have called it home since 1986.
