Thorsby's arena took the Arctic Spas name in 2011 and got a new ice floor in 2026
The Arctic Spas Recreation Complex carries the name of a local company. Arctic Spas, the hot tub maker, had been based in the village of Thorsby for about ten years when the Thorsby Recreation complex was to be renamed for it on 15 December 2011, in a sponsorship planned for at least eight years. The announcement described the complex as providing the community with a wide range of services and venues.
The arena floor is more than 40 years old, and the refrigeration lines beneath the ice are as old. Several brine leaks had been treated with sealant in earlier years, until a technical review found that the sealant was no longer holding and a full replacement was chosen.
The work got under way in late March 2026. Demolition removed all of the concrete, boards and piping in April, and the new floor was installed from mid-May. Town officials planted Canadian coins in the concrete at centre ice for good fortune, and the arena was due to reopen to the public in late September in time for the winter season.
