A 2016 ice arena in Kemerovo named for a double master of sport in hockey and bandy
The Gruzdev Ice Arena in Kemerovo opened on 19 January 2016 as a sports and wellness complex named after Gennady Gruzdev, a Kuzbass athlete who twice earned the title of Master of Sport of the USSR, in ice hockey and in bandy. The building has three floors and 6,000 square metres, with ten changing rooms for athletes, three choreography halls and a gym.
At its core is a 1,545 square metre ice sheet with stands for 500 spectators, used for hockey and figure skating, with year-round artificial ice. The arena is built for 700 visits a day, and the rink itself holds 100 people. During the season it hosts key matches of the all-Russian Night Hockey League, and it runs masterclasses and training with coaches such as the Fetisov hockey academy.
Outdoors, a hockey box beside the building is free for mass skating by local residents in winter. Mass-skating sessions inside are posted by date and renewed every Monday.
