An NHL-size rink under the Shenzhen Gymnasium, open all year, for figure skating, hockey and speed skating
Pengwan International Ice Rink sits below the Shenzhen Gymnasium in the Shenzhen Sports Center, a city-owned venue in the heart of Futian and one of the main venues of the 2025 National Games. Its everyday rink is an NHL-size sheet of 60 by 26 metres, open all year for training and for public skating, and the operator says it is the only rink in South China frozen with a carbon-dioxide system, which saves energy and keeps the temperature and hardness of the ice steady enough for top competition.
On the ground floor, a 60 by 30 metre hall that is used day to day for basketball and badminton can be turned into a second competition rink within four hours, for international figure skating, hockey and short-track events and ice shows. The centre teaches figure skating, hockey and speed skating to first-timers, company groups and school teams, with domestic and international course tracks, and its coaching team of Chinese and Russian coaches is led by the figure skating world champion Chen Lu.
