Brantford's four-rink sports centre, named for Wayne Gretzky
The Wayne Gretzky Sports Centre has been Brantford's main sports and leisure building for more than 40 years, and it carries the name of the city's own hockey superstar. It is also home to the Brantford and Area Sports Hall of Recognition, which Wayne Gretzky opened with a ribbon cutting on June 29, 1984.
The ice side is four NHL-size rinks plus a goalie warm-up rink. The main arena seats more than 1,000, with a press box and an indoor track on its second floor, and the other three rinks each seat 250 on radiant-heated seating. Brantford Minor Hockey, the Brantford Girls Hockey Association, the Brantford Community Hockey League, the Brant Figure Skating Club and Brantford Minor Lacrosse all rent the arena for their programs.
The Sports Hall began as temporary exhibits in the centre's cafeteria and moved into an expanded space on November 22, 2014, with a tribute area for Wayne Gretzky and his family.
