South Okanagan's second ice facility, built in 1968
The Oliver and District Arena was built in 1968 and was the second ice facility to be established in the South Okanagan. After more than five decades of use, many key components of the building had reached the end of their useful life, and the Regional District of Okanagan-Similkameen and the Town of Oliver began a rehabilitation project in June 2024.
The project includes replacing the ice slab and the dasher board system, an energy recovery system, upgraded refrigeration controls, and dressing rooms and washrooms renovated to current accessibility standards. The arena was not available for public use during construction, with most of the work planned to be finished by early fall 2024 to prepare for ice season.
The arena serves the Town of Oliver and the surrounding area as a regional hub for sport, special events, recreation and wellness. For more than 50 years Osoyoos Indian Band members have rented ice time, played in hockey tournaments and made lifelong friends at the rink, and the band's hockey clubs, the Inkameep War Bonnets and the Wolf Creek Chargers, have played there.
