A single NHL sheet with 700 seats, opened December 15, 2015, home ice for Nebraska's men's and women's hockey
The John Breslow Ice Hockey Center opened on December 15, 2015, an $11 million project toward which John Breslow and his wife, Sonia, gave $7 million. At the dedication on February 3, 2016, Breslow said the idea of building an indoor rink in Lincoln took root in Las Vegas.
The building is a 53,393-square-foot arena around a single NHL-size sheet, with seating for 700 spectators and a warming lobby off the ice. The University of Nebraska men's and women's hockey, curling and broomball teams share the sheet with Lincoln's youth hockey and figure skating clubs, and Learn to Skate classes run from age 3 through adult levels. Rink Management Services operates the center in partnership with UNL Campus Recreation and Lincoln Parks and Recreation.
The UNL Hockey Club's first game here, on January 22, 2016, drew more than 1,000 fans, and more than 200 people attended the February 3 dedication. Within a few weeks of opening the building was in constant use, its calendar filled with hockey, figure skating, curling and broomball alongside intramural sports and public skating.
