Nebraska's only Olympic-size ice sheet
Moylan Ice Plex opened in November 1995 as South Pacific Tranquility Iceplex, built under a private-public partnership agreement with the City of Omaha. In August 1996 Tim Moylan and his daughter Jenni drowned off the coast of Mexico during a family vacation, and the Omaha City Council renamed the building Tim Moylan Tranquility Iceplex in his honor. Moylan had been a big part of growing ice time and the culture around hockey in the city, and a picture of him is the first thing a visitor sees inside the entrance.
The building holds two sheets: an NHL-size rink and an Olympic-size rink that is 15 feet wider than NHL standard and the only one of its kind in Nebraska. It is the home rink of the Omaha Hockey Club and the Nxt Level Hockey Academy, and two figure skating associations, one of them Blade and Edge Skating Club, also skate here.
The partnership that built the rink still runs it: in October 2023 the two sides counted more than 30 years operating Moylan together. The rink has also hosted the Daegan Page Memorial Hockey Tournament, an adult tournament played over three days in June.
