Harry Weese's rink in Columbus, Indiana
Hamilton Center began as an outdoor rink designed by architect Harry Weese, a gift to the City of Columbus from The Hamilton Foundation in memory of B.F. Hamilton. Its community building was conceived as a Swiss chalet-style warming house with changing rooms, with rough-hewn granite boulder walls and large areas of glass outside and a triple-peaked wood-beamed roof and central granite fireplace inside.
In 1975 Koster and Associates enclosed the rink with matching materials, creating a regulation hockey rink, a practice rink and a year-round skating facility. A $2.8 million restoration completed in 2015, paid for with public funds and private donations, brought back some of the original components.
It is the home rink of the Columbus Icemen high school team and the Columbus Flames youth teams, and is used by the Lincoln Center Skate Club, Full Throttle Speedskating and the Columbus Broomball Association. In May 2025 the Indiana Sentinels of the Federal Prospects Hockey League were announced to begin play in 2025–26.
