Built in 1982 beside the Weyburn Colosseum as the city's second ice, with 400 seats on three levels
The Tom Zandee Sports Arena was built in 1982 beside the Weyburn Colosseum, today's Whitecap Resources Centre, as the city's second ice facility. The Colosseum itself dates from 1960 and has been renovated and expanded several times. The Tom Zandee sheet measures 85 by 190 feet, and its 400 seats are spread through the lobby, the main level and an upper level.
The two arenas share an ice plant. A minor ammonia leak from its chiller, installed during the 2023/24 season, closed both buildings and left the plant out of operation. Facilities staff worked 24-hour shifts to preserve the ice surfaces so they would not have to be removed, and the City reopened both arenas earlier than expected once repairs and inspections were complete, starting with light skates for the Weyburn Gold Wings and Red Wings.
The City now schedules ice at both arenas through FinnlySport, and both rinks stream live and on demand on LiveBarn.
