City-owned arena open since 1978, home ice of the NA3HL Alexandria Blizzard since 2012
Runestone Community Center has hosted Alexandria's on-ice activities and dry-floor events since 1978. The city of Alexandria owns the multi-purpose ice arena and recreational facility, which has carried the PrimeWest Health name since a naming-rights agreement in March 2023.
The hockey ice measures 200 by 85 feet. The Alexandria Blizzard of the North American 3 Hockey League have played their home games here since 2012, and several local high school hockey teams share the building. The Alexandria Area Hockey Association, the local youth hockey program, is based here, the Alexandria Figure Skating Club, established in the fall of 1979, skates out of the center, and the Vikingland Curling Club calls it home as well.
Construction on a two-phase renovation and expansion started in June 2024. Phase 1, finished in November 2024, rebuilt the main lobby. Phase 2, complete in September 2025, added space to the south end of the facility on the ice, concourse and mezzanine levels, with new team rooms, a meeting room and an elevator. More than $4.1 million came from individual and business donors, including the naming-rights partners. A proposed Phase 3 would add a third arena.
