Open since September 26, 1984

Brett Memorial Ice Arena has been operating since September 26, 1984, and it marked its 25th anniversary with a public celebration on September 26, 2009. It is a borough-run, year-round ice arena in Wasilla, standing next to Wasilla Middle School.

The 2009 anniversary notice gives a picture of who was on the ice then: in nearly a year some 70,246 skaters had used it, and Miner, quoted in the borough's notice, put it this way: "Adult hockey is booming. Youth hockey is busting at the seams." The celebration itself showed the arena's range of users, with hockey from the Mat-Su Amateur Hockey Association, figure skating with 2009 U.S. junior silver medalist Keegan Messing, sledge hockey with Challenge Alaska and speed skating with the Alaska Speed Skating Club.

The building's most recent dated change is its roof: in May 2021 the Mat-Su Borough Assembly approved replacing the roofs on Brett Memorial Ice Arena and the neighbouring Wasilla Pool. Today the borough's Learn to Skate classes start in September, and the arena keeps its ice in year-round.
