Northern Ireland's only public Olympic-size rink
Dundonald International Ice Bowl was officially opened by the Mayor of Castlereagh, Alderman P. D. Robinson, on Monday 22 September 1986. It is council-owned and was, and remains, the only public Olympic size ice rink in Northern Ireland.
Numerous ice galas and competitions have featured world class skaters, including Torville and Dean, and the centre has produced many British Figure Skating Champions, among them Jenna McCorkell, Neil Wilson, Carla Quinn, Edward Alton and Tameron Drake. It is the training ground of the Belfast Giants and the home ground of the Castlereagh Spartans, Prowlers, Castlereagh Vixens and Junior Belfast Giants.
Building work is under way on a new Dundonald International Ice Bowl, with an Olympic sized ice rink, 24-lane bowling and a 120 station gym, and it is expected to open in 2027. The current Ice Bowl will remain open for business throughout the construction phase.
