Bellingham's 1997 Sportsplex rink, run by a nonprofit since 2004 and home of the Blazers and WWU Vikings.
The Bellingham Sportsplex ice rink opened on October 20, 1997, built for $2 million by the Whitewater Ice Corporation, which had run the defunct Whatcom County Sports Arena. The complex's indoor soccer field followed on January 10, 2000.
Whatcom Sports & Recreation, a nonprofit founded in 1986 as the Whatcom Soccer Commission, took over management of the Sportsplex's indoor soccer field and ice arena in 2004 and changed its name at that time.
The rink holds 550 for hockey and is home to the USPHL's Bellingham Blazers and Western Washington University's ACHA Vikings, who have played here since 1997, along with local amateur hockey and figure skating lessons and performances. Its year-round Learn to Skate classes pair 30 minutes of instruction with 30 minutes of practice.
