Bowling Green's downtown holiday rink
SoKY Ice Rink is a temporary rink installed each winter under the covered pavilion at 6th and Center in downtown Bowling Green, the space formerly called the SoKY Marketplace. It began as a partnership: Wiesemann Orthodontics as lead sponsor, with Warren County Government, the SoKY Marketplace and volunteers from the Warren County Inline Hockey League, who together install the ice. Its first season drew sixteen thousand patrons from around the region, including Tennessee, and other communities later came asking how to set up rinks of their own.
The rink has had interruptions. It did not open in 2020 because of the COVID-19 pandemic, and in 2021 it reopened only to cancel the rest of the season after the December tornadoes. In 2025 the pavilion and adjacent building became the SOKY Center, a small-business hub run by the Warren County Public Library, and Judge-Executive Doug Gorman opened the rink's ninth season there.
The 6,000-square-foot sheet holds 175 skaters, framed by colored LED lights, Christmas trees and snowflake lighting projected onto the ice. "It's just such a positive place here," one visitor said on opening day in 2025.
