A year-round indoor sheet beside a covered open-air rink that turns into a turf field each summer
Stephen C. West Ice Arena in Breckenridge runs two surfaces. The indoor rink stays frozen year-round, while the second is a full-size open-air rink under a roof, iced from about September through March. From April to August that outdoor slab is covered with turf and used as an outdoor turf gym. The ice is not only for skating and hockey: the arena also sets up for broomball, curling and disco skate.
Public offerings are generally available seven days a week, alongside group and private skating and hockey lessons, figure and hockey skate rentals, limited hockey equipment rentals and skate sharpening during normal business hours. A pro shop stocks hockey gear from brands such as CCM, Warrior, True and A&R, and there is a selection of snacks and canned beverages.
Games and sessions can be watched live through LiveBarn. The meeting room, with its attached kitchen, may be rented for a skating event, family reunion or birthday party, and party packages are available. The arena is on Boreas Pass Road at the south end of Breckenridge, off Highway 9.
