Coffs Harbour's Big Banana, family owned since 1964 and home to an ice skating rink
The Big Banana Fun Park in Coffs Harbour was built in 1964 and is described as one of Australia's first Big Things. It has been a family-owned business since it was opened by Betty and John Landi, and in 2007 Australia Post issued 50c stamps commemorating big things, including the Big Banana.
Today its attractions include an ice skating rink and a theatre providing an educational experience. The park once had three scenic monorail sets driven on a two beam track, and in 2022 plans were submitted for an alpine coaster, the Plantation Coaster, which opened on 13 December 2025.
The monorail belongs to the park's past, and the alpine coaster is a recent addition. In January 2014, during the peak tourist season, the Big Banana received close to 150,000 visitors.
