Bonnyville's C2: the 1,800-seat R.J. Lalonde Arena, home of the AJHL Pontiacs, and a second NHL-size sheet.
The Bonnyville & District Centennial Centre, known as the C2, grew around the R.J. Lalonde Arena, which opened on November 27, 1982. A redevelopment renovated that arena, with a new ice plant and dressing rooms for the district's minor and junior hockey, and added a second ice arena, a fitness centre, a multi-use fieldhouse and an 11-classroom education wing.
Today the C2 has two arenas, the R.J. Lalonde and the Cenovus Energy Arena, used for hockey games, tournaments, figure skating and special events. The R.J. Lalonde seats more than 1,800 and is home to the Bonnyville Pontiacs of the Alberta Junior Hockey League; its floor also takes concerts, trade shows, festivals and fundraisers.
Beginners and young families have an indoor leisure pond where sticks and pucks are not allowed, and outside the building an open-air community rink has its own heated skate shack.
