Chapman Hill's rink got a roof in 2000 and refrigeration in January 2002, built on an underground spring

Chapman Hill Ice Rink began with a roof. Matt Morrissey was hired in 2000, just after a roof had been placed on the rink to try to develop a sheet of ice for skating. There was no refrigeration, so the ice did not last long and was inconsistent. In winter 2000, after hockey boards were installed, Chapman held its first adult hockey league.
The Chapman Hill Improvement Association then began to raise money to install refrigeration for the ice rink. When Chapman opened in January 2002, the ice rink was refrigerated.
The rink was able to ramp up programming and build a competitive youth hockey program, and the adult hockey league grew quickly, from nine teams to 40. Morrissey called it the largest adult hockey program in Colorado with one sheet of seasonal ice. The rink was built on top of a spring, and water is known to seep up from the floor.
