Spruce Grove's two-sheet Heavy Metal Place, home of the BCHL's Spruce Grove Saints since May 2025.
Heavy Metal Place held its grand opening on Saturday, May 10, 2025, the day the Spruce Grove Saints opened the Thompson Family Arena as their new home. The building pairs two NHL-size ice surfaces with a theatre, a full branch of the Spruce Grove Public Library and a walking track on the Thompson Family Arena concourse.
The Saints, a junior A club in the British Columbia Hockey League, play their home games on the Thompson Family Arena ice, and more than 50 former Saints have reached the NHL, among them Mark Messier and Stu Barnes. The second sheet, the Cst. Brett Ryan Community Arena, honours a Spruce Grove resident and Edmonton Police Service constable who was killed in the line of duty on March 16, 2023.
Most of the City's drop-in skating runs on the Brett Ryan sheet, and the Wednesday seniors' skate ends with complimentary coffee in the atrium.
