Opened as Granby's Palais des sports in 1967, renamed for Léonard Grondin in 1993, three rinks since 2011
The Centre sportif Léonard-Grondin was built in 1967 on rue Léon-Harmel and was first known as the Palais des sports, a building that staged shows and other sports as well as hockey. In 1981 the Éperviers de Sorel moved in for good and became the Granby Bisons of the QMJHL, a team that counted Patrick Roy on its roster from 1982 to 1985. The arena was also home to the QMJHL's Granby Prédateurs.
In 1993 the arena took the name of Léonard Grondin, a regional businessman and one of the pioneers of amateur hockey in Granby, who had owned the Grondin Sports et Camping shop since the 1950s. A renovation of the 40-year-old building added a third rink to give residents more ice time, and the expanded centre was officially renamed Centre sportif Léonard-Grondin on February 7, 2011.
Rink A measures 175 by 75 feet, while Rinks B and C are 200 by 85 feet, and Rink B is ringed by 1,996 seats. Granby Multi-Sports, which has its offices in the building, runs drop-in skating on all three sheets. The centre also hosts leagues, tournaments and teams, among them today's Bisons de Granby and the Cégep de Granby's Indigo.
